The Benefits of Strength Training

As we age, our muscle mass and strength dissipate. According to Harvard Medical, it begins at around age 35 at a rate of 1-2% a year, then accelerates to about 3% once over the age of 65. These are typical numbers and each individual's rate varies, but it's still something to keep in mind.

Strength training has various health benefits for everyone, at every age. It's important that these regimens be implemented according to each individual's needs, however. In other words, go slowly to get your body acclimated. Also, a little soreness the next day is normal, but severe pain is not. Muscles take time to build, but just keeping them healthy can do a great deal in keeping you safe and well. Studies have shown that people with stronger muscles have less falls and if they do fall, have less injuries.

Listen to your body and have fun!
